BERLIN, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- German Chancellor
Gerhard Schroeder said on Thursday that his country as well as France and Russia
will vote for the United States-proposed resolution on Iraq.
While attending a European Union summit in Brussels, Schroeder said the
decision was made after his 45-minute three-way phone conversation with
President Jacques Chirac of France and President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
However, the three countries will explain, after the United Nations
Security Council votes on the resolution later Thursday, that the US proposal is
still not an adequate response to the current Iraqi situation, Schroeder said.
Germany, France and Russia will be involved in Iraq neither militarily nor
financially, he added.
Berlin, Paris and Moscow have urged Washington to give a leading role to
the United Nations in the Iraqi reconstruction process, complaining that the
latest US proposal has not met their demand. Enditem
