MOSCOW, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A fire engulfed a psychiatric hospital in Belarus on Sunday, in which 29 patients were killed, the country's Emergency Situation Ministry said.

Some psychopaths in the asylum, which is based in the Grodnenskaya region, set the fire, Interfax quoted the ministry assaying.

Failing to put out the blaze, hospital staff reported the accident to the fire-fighting department half an hour after the fire broke out.

Rescue teams evacuated 31 patients from the hospital, which was partially damaged in the fire.

Patients in the government-sponsored asylum had tried twice to set fire to the hospital before but their attempts were foiled, said Interfax. Enditem
