One wounded in bomb explosion in southern France

PARIS, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A bomb exploded on Friday morning infront of a military casern in the southern French resort of Nice, injuring one person, French televisions reported.

A female guardian of a school in front of the casern was also lightly hurt in the face. The blast took place at about 0600 (0400GMT) and the windows of the casern, the school and neighboring buildings were blown out, the report said.

The explosive was left at the gate of the information bureau ofthe casern, said the police.

In January 2001 the casern escaped a 10-kg explosive device, which was placed inside the casern and disarmed by an agent. In June 2002 a bomb alert was given against the casern.

In the casern, there are recruit offices of France's armed forces (army, navy and air force), a national service center, the military delegation of the province and foreign troops.

In July 16 people were slightly injured when two explosions occurred in front of the tax and customs offices in Nice. No groups or individuals claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The National Liberation Front of Corsica (FLNC), the separatistarmed group that seeks independence for France's Mediterranean island of Corsica, claimed the responsibility of the alert againstthe casern last year.

The FLNC announced in July that it would stop observing the truce that came into effect in January this year. It has been engaged in violence to protest against French rule on the island for three decades.

Corsica joined France in 1768 and remains the poorest and the most heavily subsidized region of the country. Enditem
