BAGHDAD, Oct. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- A US soldier was killed and two others wounded late Wednesday in a bomb attack in Saddam Hussein's hometown in northern Iraq, the US military said.

The soldiers came under attack when their convoy hit a roadside bomb at about 5:00 pm (1300 GMT) on its way through Tikrit, 160 km north of Baghdad, said the military.

Earlier, a US military officer said three US soldiers were wounded in the attack.

The anti-American sentiment comes strongest in a vast area northand west of the capital city, where the US forces have lost over 80 soldiers in hostile fire since May 1. Enditem
