UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday said bold steps in keeping with the roadmap are now necessary to be taken to salvage the peace processin the Middle East.

The dangerous impasse could only be broken through revitalized and active international involvement, he told journalists.

Emerging from a meeting of the Quartet, Annan urged the international community to help Israel and Palestine to shoulder their responsibility to their peoples.

"Small steps have not worked and are unlikely to work in the future," Annan said. Enditem
