TOKYO, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- A fairly strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on
the Richter scale jolted Tokyo and its vicinity in eastern Japan on Saturday.
According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the quake, which occurred
at around 1:00 p.m. (0400 GMT), was strongly felt in Tokyo and its surrounding
areas.
There is no death reported so far.
The tremor measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity of 7. Its epicenter
was about 80 kilometers underground in Tokyo's neighboring Chiba prefecture, the
agency said.
The Japanese seismic scale measures intensity of motion on the earth
surface, while the Richter scale measures the force of the earthquake.
