KABUL, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Kabul police commander Abdul Baseir Salangi has been
replaced under the proposal of Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali's and
with the approval of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Kabul National Television
reported Wednesday night,
Gen. Baba Jon, former head of the police operation for the Interior
Ministry, has been appointed as the successor of Salangi,Gen. Ghul Nabi, chief
of staff for the Interior Ministry, told Xinhua through a phone call.
Following the reforms process in the leadership of the Afghan Interior
Ministry, Ghul Nabi said that the new replacement has been carried out among the
underlings in that ministry.
Afghan analyst Professor Astad Saighani, a member of the AfghanIndependent
Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), said to Xinhua that the replacement of the
Kabul police commander might have linked with a recent accident in Shir Poor
district of the capital city, in which many residential houses were bulldozed
under the command of the dismissed Kabul police chief.
Recently, the AIHRC issued a report condemning Abdul Baseer Salangi for
violating human rights by using forces to occupy 30 houses in Shir Poor district
on September. 4. As the result, 300 residents there were driven away and became
