DHAKA, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Bangladeshi Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan Wednesday expressed Bangladesh's concern over military build-up in India.

Talking to journalists here, he said Bangladesh as a matter of principle is against any sort of military build-up and proliferation of nuclear weapons as those would perpetuate povertyin South Asia.

Replying to a question whether strategic balance in the region would be affected following the India-Israel agreement on nuclear weapons and military build-up during Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's New Delhi visit, the foreign minister said "we are concerned."

"South Asia is a pocket of global poverty and we have to fight it first. But military build-up in one country would destabilize the strategic balance in South Asia," he said.

As regards Israeli threat to the life of Palestine President Yasser Arafat, Morshed Khan said Bangladesh has already condemned it in the strongest words and termed the threat atrocious.

"None other than terrorists could threat a political figure like Arafat," the foreign minister added. Enditem
