NEW DELHI, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Nasir Ansaar, commander of militant group
Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), was killed in an encounter with India police in
Srinagar, the capital of the India-controlledKashmir area Tuesday night.
Ansaar, a resident of Pakistan and involved in about 20 killings of
security and police personnel, was number two in the JeM, the Press Trust of
India quoted Director General of Police Gopal Sharma as saying Wednesday.
Sharma said the encounter took place when Indian police was on its way to a
JeM hideout at Dana Mazar near Safakadal in the old city.
Soon after the killing of Gazi Baba, the number one of JeM on August 30,
India police had launched an offensive against the militants operating in the
India-controlled Kashmir area.
Killing of Ansaar, busting of 12 of its hideouts and arrest of its
underground workers have given a big blow to JeM in the area, said Sharma.
