GAZA, Sept. 17
(Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority(PNA) on Wednesday condemned a
US veto against a UN Security Council resolution demanding Israel to cancel its
decision to expel Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters that the
Palestinian leadership describes Tuesday when the US administration made the
veto as "black day in the history of the international legitimacy."
"It is really a black day in the history of the international
legitimacy and to all the international conventions and resolutions," Erekat
said, adding that he hopes that Israel "would not explain the US veto as a
license and a green light to expel President Arafat or kill him."
He said threatening a president, who was legally elected by the
Palestinian people and was always described as the leader of the peace of the
bravers, "indicates that Israel and the United Statesare neglecting the Arabs
and the entire international community."
"I think the US veto had shown that all the international
conventions and resolutions had collapsed," Erekat said, accusing the United
States of treating Israel as the only country which is above the international
law.
"The Palestinians believed that the US decision and the veto are
unfair at all," he said.
On Tuesday, 11 state members of the UN Security Council voted
for the council's resolution, which was presented by Syria and Sudan, demanding
Israel stop its decision to deport Arafat, but the United States vetoed the
resolution. Enditem
