Suzuki to make automobile engines in China

  TOKYO, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp. is in talks with a Chinese automaker on jointly manufacturing automobile engines in China, a major Japanese business daily reported Wednesday.

  Suzuki Motor and Changhe Aircraft Industry (Group) Corp. already produce an automobile through a joint venture and are now in talks to build a new production site in east China's Jiangxi Province.

  According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Suzuki is also considering making a second model with Changhe Aircraft and jointly build a plant for 1-liter-class engines with an investmentof 15 to 22.5 billion yen (128 to 192 million US dollars), which will be shared with Changhe.

  With an annual capacity of 300,000 units, the new site is expected to go on line around 2005, the newspaper said.

  Since 2001, the two automakers have been producing the Wagon R at Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki Automobile Co., which boasts an annual capacity of 100,000 units. Enditem
