ANKARA, Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiation process had suffered a serious defeat as no result was achieved in the WTO meeting in Mexico, Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Tuesday.

The outcome of the WTO meeting was a loss for all the world and nobody had gained in the end, Tuzmen said.

Tuzmen made the remarks in Istanbul upon return from Mexico, where he attended the Fifth WTO Ministerial Conference.

It was not easy to unite all the 146 members, Tuzmen conceded, "But, in the meeting held in Doha in 2001, it was stressed that the WTO should respond to demands of developing countries. However, developed countries have not taken big steps in these issues since then."

Tuzmen stated that lifting subsidies in agriculture, export and goods is important for Turkey and reducing tariffs as much as possible is also important.

"No development has been recorded in decreasing tariffs on agricultural exports. When we look at the industrial products, we see that market flexibility still continues. We will continue our preparations," he said.

Tuzmen warned that the meeting was a lesson for the organizationto structure its decision-making mechanisms to work more efficiently.

"The meeting once more showed the need that the developed countries should give importance to demands of developing countries.

"Our target was to increase our share in world trade volume of around eight trillion US dollars. We have exerted efforts to reach our target," he added. Enditem
