JAKARTA,Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesia's Attorney General's Office (AGO) said here Tuesday that it could not freeze the seven bank accounts allegedly owned by terrorists as the United Nations requested.

Freezing bank accounts is the right of the police, said AGO spokesman Antasari Azhar. The Attorney General office received a letter from the United Nations on Sept. 9, requesting the Attorney General to freeze assets and bank accounts allegedly owned by terrorists.

"We have replied the letter that freezing (the bank accounts) is the right of investigator (police)," Antasari was quoted by Detikcom online news service as saying.

Under a United Nations Security Council resolution, all UN member countries must freeze assets and accounts of all groups and individuals listed with the UN Counter Terrorism Committee. Enditem
