Thailand opens trial for suspected JI members

   BANGKOK, Sept. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand kicked off trial of four suspected Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) members at the third crimial court on Tuesday afternoon, but the court debate of the case will be held after the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in October.

  The defendants and the prosecutor will present their evidence and debate on Nov. 18 and 28 on the case of the four JI suspects, the court declared at the end of a brief trial.

  The court will not give any verdict until then, said the court.

  The four defendants, appeared on the court in handcuffs and schackles, are charged with being colluding with international group to engage in activities against national interests, illegally forming associations and being members of illegal groups.

  They were first alleged by the police of conspiring attacks targeted at foreign institutions in Thailand.

  This is the first trial of the four JI suspects since they were arrested in early June.

  With the October APEC summit drawing in, Thailand has beefed up campaign against suspected terrorists including JI members. Enditem
