COLOMBO, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Sri Lankan Tamil Tiger rebels want the international community to channel their assistance towards rebuilding the war-ravaged areas in the north and east through an interim power sharing unit, a special Japanese peace envoy said on Monday.

Yasushi Akashi, the Japanese peace envoy on Sri Lanka's Norwegian-brokered peace process completed his five-day visit to the country on Monday, his 5th tour since he was appointed to thisspecial role by the Japanese government.

Akashi told reporters that during his meeting with the political leadership of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the rebels did not disclose full details of their counter proposals to be submitted to the government on an interim power sharing arrangement.

"They stressed that aid coming to the northeast should be processed through the provisional administrative structure," Akashi said.

The LTTE pulled out of the ongoing peace process in April and demanded the setting up of an interim structure in order to fully utilize the international donor assistance pledged at a conferenceheld in Tokyo in June.

Akashi warned both the government and the Tigers that the international community may lose its patience on the stalled nature of the peace process.

"There is a danger that international attention could shift gradually to other trouble spots such as Afghanistan, Iraq or evenNorth Korea," Akashi said.

However, he said that the LTTE is very much in the process and they were hopeful of the government's acceptance of their counter proposals for an interim power sharing arrangement in order to resume talks.

The government has said that the peace talks could resume by the end of this month when the rebels submit their counter proposals in response to the government proposals handed over to them in July. Enditem
