BANGKOK, Sept. 15, (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand will host the International AIDS Conference
next year, in which the kingdom will share its experiences in
successfully reducing AIDS cases, according to a senior Public Health Ministry
official.
Charul Trinvuthipong, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control
of Thailand, was quoted by Thai News Agency as saying Monday that the kingdom
would host the XV International AIDS Conference on July 11-16, 2004 with the
theme of "Access for All."
Government leaders, academics, researchers, the general public,and AIDS
patients are invited to take part in the conference, which is organized by the
International AIDS Society (IAS), he stated.
At the six-day meeting, Thailand will share its experiences in easing the
AIDS problem to a satisfactory level through measures, namely providing AIDS
vaccines and promoting the use of condoms, Charul said.
A report released by the Department of Disease Control showed that there
have been 305,268 HIV/AIDS victims in Thailand since 1984, with 69,832 deaths.
The report found that most of the HIV/AIDS victims were workersin sectors
of businesses and services, aged 20-39. Enditem
