SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Typhoon Maemi caused an estimated
1.5 trillion won (1.28 billion US dollars) in damage in South Korea with 115
people dead or missing, according to South Korea Central Anti-Disaster
Headquarters (CADH).
The CADH said 87 people were confirmed dead and 28 were still missing as of
Monday.
Typhoon Maemi also damaged 774 roads, 27 bridges, 16,356 hectares of
greenhouses and submerged 17,420 hectares of farmland. It also left 8,938 people
homeless.
A total of 465 vessels were destroyed or stranded since the arrival of
Typhoon Maemi, which brought winds of up to 60 meters per second.
Five nuclear power plants in east coast have yet to recover completely due
to a breakdown of power lines, although electricity had been restored to most of
the 1.4 million households in the southeastern part of the nation, which
suffered blackouts for days.
Telecommunications authorities said they finished repair work of 2,494
relay stations of the total 3,063 stations affected by strong winds or flooding.
Most of the expressways and roads damaged by floods had been repaired.
Typhoon Maemi landed South Korean last Friday night and left the country
early last Saturday. Enditem
