MANILA, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Sixty-three members of the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF), the biggest rebel group in the Philippines, have
surrendered to the authority in the southern province of Northern Cotabato, a
military report said.
Four field commanders were among those who gave themselves in to the Philippine
Army 38th Infantry Brigade in Midsayap town, the military said in a
report reaching Manila on Monday morning. The MILF, however, denied the report
immediately afterwards.
The 12,000-strong MILF has been waging a 25-year-old insurgence war in
Mindanao in the south. A new round of formal peace talks between the MILF and
the government, which had been set in August in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, was
put off to October. Enditem
