CAIRO, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Arab diplomats will meet in the Egyptian
capital Monday on the worsening situation in the occupied Palestinian lands,
Arab League chief Amr Moussa said here on Sunday.
"The pan-Arab forum is to hold an emergency meeting at the levelof chief
delegates to discuss Israeli threats to exile Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat,"
Moussa said in a statement.
Also on Sunday, Moussa held intensive contacts with Arab foreignministers
on the volatile Middle East situation, Egypt's official MENA news agency
reported.
The Israeli security cabinet decided in principle to remove Arafat on
Thursday following two Palestinian suicide bombings whichleft 15 people dead on
Sept. 9.
The Palestinian side has swiftly condemned the Israeli decision and held
the Israeli side responsible for the mounting violence.
Arab countries have voiced hope that the international quartet, comprising
the United States, European Union, Russia and United Nations, would take
concrete moves to bring the derailed Middle East peace process back on track and
salvage the so-called roadmap peace plan.
The internationally drafted blueprint requires reciprocal steps to be taken
by Israel and the Palestinians toward peace and envisions a full Palestinian
statehood by 2005. Enditem
