BAGHDAD, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet )-- US civil administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer
suggested Sunday that compensation might be paid to thefamilies of victims in
the "friendly fire" incident in Iraq's western city of Fallujah.
"We have expressed regrets for it publicly. When we have reachedconclusion
about how the incident came about we'll take appropriatesteps," Bremer told
reporters in a press conference held jointly with US Secretary of State Colin
Powell.
"We have paid families in the past where we have felt that it was
appropriate, but this particular incident is still under investigation," he
added.
Bremer said the amount of money that could be paid "would be a matter for
the military after they finish the investigation."
It was the first time that Bremer made comment on the incident, in which
eight Iraqi policemen and a Jordanian bodyguard were killed by US fire on
Friday.
The mistake in post-war Iraq has prompted tribesmen in Fallujah,50 km west
of Baghdad, to take revenge.
One US soldier was killed and another wounded Sunday morning at the
entrance to Fallujah when their convoy hit a roadside bomb. Enditem
