Kuwait calls for stopping Israel from expelling Arafat

  KUWAIT CITY, Sept. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwait on Friday called on world states that have influence on Israel to help prevent the Jewish country from expelling Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat or any other Palestinians.

  "It is decried to expel a person from his country and his land,"Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah said in a statement to reporters upon his return from an official visit to Italy.

  Israel's security cabinet on Thursday evening agreed in principle to expel Arafat and has asked the Israel Defense Forces to draw up a plan for Arafat's exile.

  Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon convened a security cabinet meeting after returning from a cut-short India visit to discuss a response to Tuesday's twin suicide bombings that killed 15 Israelis.

  Responding to the participation of representatives of the Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) in the meeting of Arab foreign ministers held in Cairo lately, the Kuwaiti foreign minister said his country "honored its promises to the IGC that it would support efforts to enable the council to occupy Iraq's seat in the Arab League during the meeting."

  On his visit to Rome, Sheikh Mohammed said his country is maintaining close relations with Italy, stressing that Kuwait has always sought to keep in touch with heads of international organizations.

  "Italy has now peacekeeping forces in Iraq...We expressed reliefat Italy's contribution to efforts to ensure stability in Iraq," hesaid. Enditem
