BAGHDAD, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A US soldier was killed and another wounded in a bomb attack near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the US command said in a statement early Wednesday.

The troops from the 3rd Corps Support Command came under attackat 5 p.m. (1300 GMT) Tuesday by an improvised explosive device on a main supply route in the northern outskirts of Baghdad, said the statement.

It was the first reported death in recent days, a rarely quiet period when the US forces suffered little casualties.

It brings to 68 the number of US soldiers killed in hostile fire since US President George W. Bush declared major combat in Iraq over on May 1.

In a separate incident, a suspected car bomb exploded in Iraq's northern Kurdish city of Arbil, killing one Iraqi and wounding 41 others, the US military said on Wednesday.

The explosion occurred at 9:05 p.m. (1705 GMT) Tuesday at a building in the city. No more details were available so far. Enditem
