¡¡¡¡BANGKOK, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said he
had confidence that Singapore would be able to stop the SARS from spreading, and
assured the public that the disease would not emerge in the Kingdom, the Bangkok
Post reported Wednesday.
¡¡¡¡The Premier made the remarks after Singapore's announcement of a fresh SARS
case on Tuesday.
¡¡¡¡Thaksin was quoted as saying that as of now there's no need to implement
any measures, but if any emergency arises the country will take measures as soon
as possible.
¡¡¡¡Strict screening and safety measures, especially in Singapore, were more
than adequate to dispel fears of a new outbreak, he said, adding that Thai Public
Health Ministry also remained vigilant of travelers returning from abroad.
¡¡¡¡Thaksin said the government had received no inquiries
so far about SARS from countries to participate in the APEC summit next month.
