TOKYO, Sept. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Japanese Prime Minister has won support of the majority of party members in the race for president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a major Japanese newspaper said Tuesday.

As of Monday, Koizumi was supported by 182 LDP lawmakers, three more than the majority of 357 party members in the parliament, said the Yomiuri Shimbun based on a survey.

The ruling party unveiled campaign for new president, with three contenders challenging incumbent president Koizumi.

Besides votes from party lawmaker electorate, rank-and-file party members in the 47 prefectures will also cast vote.
