WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- A panel discussion at a renowned US think
tank spread a view on Monday that the currency exchange rate is not a solution
to trade issues.
Randall S. Kroszner, a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise
Institute, said at the panel discussion that changes ofcurrency exchange rate
actually have very little impact on the exports to another country.
Kroszner made the remarks when addressing the current controversies about
the relationship between the Chinese yuan and trade issues.
He also said that China imports enormously from abroad.
The panel believed that the Chinese currency would not be an issue on the
agenda of the upcoming ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization to be
held in Cancun, Mexico from Sept. 10 to Sept. 14.
The American Enterprise Institute held the discussion on Mondayjust before
the Cancun meeting to predict its success or failure. Experts at the discussion
generally believed the negotiations could be arduous.
Among the other economists at panel discussion were Claude E. Barfield, J.
Michael Finger and James K. Glassman, all from the institute. Enditem
