¡¡¡¡CAIRO, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Amr Moussa on Sunday urged the European Union (EU) not to bow to Israel's hard line on the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

¡¡¡¡Speaking to reporters after talks with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, Moussa said the EU decision to regard Hamas as a terrorist organization was conditional and temporary.

¡¡¡¡Moussa said he discussed with Solana the latest developments inthe Middle East peace process, especially recent escalating Israeli hostility to the Palestinians, and in post-war Iraq.

¡¡¡¡Solana said the EU had sent a message several months ago, calling on Hamas to turn into a political party and abandon its military acts.

¡¡¡¡There was still chance that the EU would reconsider its decision if Hamas turned itself into a political party, he said.

¡¡¡¡At a meeting in Italy on Saturday, EU foreign ministers agreed to blacklist the political wing of Hamas and freeze its assets.

¡¡¡¡Israel has claimed that it is impossible to differentiate between the political and military wing of Hamas. The Hamas military wing had already been blacklisted.

¡¡¡¡Speaking at the joint press conference held at the Cairo-based AL headquarters, both Moussa and Solana stressed the need to push ahead with the so-called roadmap peace plan envisioning a full Palestinian statehood by 2005.

¡¡¡¡On Saturday, Hamas spiritual leader, Ahmed Yassin, was lightly wounded by an Israeli missile attack. In response, Hamas threatened to kill Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who was blamed for the mounting violence on the ground. Enditem
