GAZA, Sept. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Founder and spiritual leader of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas Sheikh Ahmed Yassin vowed on Saturday to revenge for Israel's assassination attempt against him.

Yassin told reporters that he promises Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and the Israelis to revenge for their trying to assassinate him when he was having a meeting at the house of a prominent Hamas leader earlier Saturday.

Yassin made the remarks when he was receiving Hamas supporters congratulating him for escaping the assassination outside the mosque of the Islamic society near his house in Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City.

An Israeli F-16 warplane fired Saturday afternoon a heavy bombat a house in Daraj neighborhood in Gaza City, where Yassin was meeting a well-known Hamas leader Isma'el Haneya.Yassin was slightly injured in the shoulder and another 13 people were also wounded in the attack.

"Sharon and the Israeli people would pay a high price for the crimes they are committing against our people," said Yassin, sitting on his wheeling chair. "Our road has two ends, either victory or martyrdom," he noted.

He said that the Palestinian people would never surrender to Israel, adding that the Palestinians "would raise the flags of victory and this rapist entity would be removed," referring to the state of Israel.

Asked about what he would tell Sharon, Yassin said "He will pay a heavy price for all these crimes that are carried out round the clock against our people."

The 67-year-old sheikh said that Hamas' armed wing Ezzdine Al-Qassam was "not founded to respond to our calls." "it is acting and active all the time against the Israeli aggression and to protectour people," he said.

Responding to the Israeli claims that he was holding a meeting of Hamas movement in Gaza City to discuss actions against Israelis when the air strike took place, Yassin said "They (Israelis) lost mind and logic."

"Does any one visiting a friend mean he is preparing for carrying out attacks against Israel," Yassin said. "What they said is to justify attacking the houses of the defenseless civilians." He urged the Arab and Islamic worlds as well as the United States and Europe to remember "that the Palestinian people are fighters for their legitimate rights and will never surrender whatever their (Israelis) power is."

Thousands of Hamas supporters and leaders gathered before the house of Yassin shouting "Allaho Akbar (God is great)" and calling for an immediate revenge for Israel. Enditem
