Russian delegation arrives in Beijing for six-party talks

Alexander Losiukov who heads the Russian delegation for six-party talks on DPRK nuclear issue arrives in Beijing this morning. Delegations of ROK, Japan and U.S. are expected to arrive later today.

¡¡¡¡BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The Russian delegation arrived here Monday morning to attend the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue,due to open on Aug. 27.

¡¡¡¡The delegation,headed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losiukov, is the first to arrive in Beijing.

¡¡¡¡The delegations of the Republic of Korea, Japan and the United States are scheduled to arrive here later Monday and the delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is expected to be here Tuesday. Enditem

Russian delegation: "discreetly optimistic" about six-party talks

¡¡¡¡BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losiukov said Monday morning at the Beijing airport that he is "discreetly optimistic" about the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue, due to open on Aug. 27.

¡¡¡¡"We will strive to propel the talks to go on," said Losiukov, who is heading the Russian delegation for the upcoming six-party talks.

¡¡¡¡The Russian delegation is the first to arrive in Beijing.

¡¡¡¡The delegations of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and the United States are scheduled to arrive here later Monday and the delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is expected to be here Tuesday.

¡¡¡¡The talks, decided by China, the DPRK, the United States, the ROK, Russia and Japan after consultations, are scheduled to last for three days.

¡¡¡¡The six-party talks represents an important step towards a peaceful solution to the Korean nuclear issue, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

¡¡¡¡On Aug. 18, Losiukov and Japanese Ambassador to Russian Nomura Issei held consultations in Moscow, and the two sides hoped that the solution to the Korean nuclear issue would provide a nuclear-free status for the Korean Peninsula, ensure the security of relevant nations and peace and stability in Northeast Asia. Four delegations to arrive in Beijing for six-party talks

¡¡¡¡BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Four delegations, from Russia, the Republic of Korea, Japan and the United States, are to arrive in Beijing Monday for the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue,which are scheduled to open here Wednesday.

¡¡¡¡The delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is expected to arrive here Tuesday for the talks, which are scheduled to last for three days at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

¡¡¡¡Analysts here said the talks represent an important step towards a peaceful solution to the Korean nuclear issue.

¡¡¡¡The heads of the delegations to the talks are Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Kim Yong Il, DPRK deputy foreign minister, James Kelly, assistant secretary of state for East Asianand Pacific Affairs of the United States, Alexander Losiukov, Russian deputy foreign minister, Lee Soo-Hyuck, Republic of Korea deputy minister of foreign affairs and trade, and Mitoji Yabunaka,director-general for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Foreign Ministry of Japan.
