LONDON, Aug. 5 (Xinhuanet)-- More than 700 British health staffs have received training on how to treat people suffering from chemical, biological radiological or nuclear attacks, the British government said Tuesday.

"So far this year, over 700 staff, ranging from GPs (general practitioners) through to accident and emergency staffs and microbiologists have received training," the Health Protection Agency said when issuing its five-year corporate plan.

The Sept. 11 attacks on the United States "signaled that futureattacks would be without warning and could produce massive casualties," the dossier warned.

Dr. Pat Troop, chief executive, told a press conference that the agency was also "scanning the horizon" for other potential bio-chemical threats including new diseases.

"National surveillance of acute chemical incidents that pose a risk to health has documented well over 1000 incidents each year. In any single incident, hundreds of people may be exposed," said the dossier.

As many as 600 new chemicals emerged in the global market each month, in addition to the 11 million already known and 70,000 in regular use, according to the dossier. Enditem
