MOSCOW, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Moscow hopes that multilateral talks on the
dispute over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) nuclear program
will begin soon, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said Friday.
"Russia welcomes the constructive move of the DPRK's leadership opening up
the road to the settlement of the situation based on talks involving those who
are most concerned," Fedotov said.
"We expect the talks to begin in the nearest future," Fedotov said,
commenting on the Thursday announcement by the DPRK's ambassador to Russia of
his country's support to six-party talks to settle the issue.
The crisis over the DPRK's alleged nuclear program broke out last October
when Washington accused Pyongyang of running a secretnuclear program in breach
of a 1994 bilateral accord.
The United States suspended fuel deliveries to the DPRK. In return, the
DPRK announced its withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in
January and later reactivated a nuclear reactor for generating electricity.
Russia has repeatedly called for a political solution to the crisis since
its eruption, and has also expressed readiness to take part in the multilateral
talks on the issue. Enditem
