LUANDA, July 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Sao Tome and Principe has begun preparing a
post-coup government, a key demand of coup troops who seized power briefly on
July 16, a report reaching here said on Tuesday.
The reinstated president, Fradique de Menezes on Monday held talks with the
archipelago's party leaders on the formation of thenew government.
After meeting with Menezes, Manuel Pinto da Costa, head of the Movement for
the Liberation of Sao Tome and Principe, the largest party of the archipelago,
told journalists that more important than a reshuffle of the coalition
government was "the analysis of the basic issues" raised by the military coup.
Pinto da Costa, a former president, said "the July 16 windstormstruck the
country's economic, social and political life."
"For that reason, we must reflect together for a definitive solution", he
added.
The mutineers, who had demanded changes in government, greater social
justice in the potentially oil-rich country and amnesty forthemselves, returned
power to Menezes and Prime Minister Maria dasNeves on July 23 after
international mediation of the crisis.
The mediation involved the Community of
Portuguese-Speaking Countries, the United States, neighboring Nigeria, Gabon,
South Africa and the Republic of the Congo. Enditem
