¡¡¡¡BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Wei Di, director of China's Water Events Administration Center of State General Sports Administration, said Monday that the National Canoeing Championships here provided a good chance for the Chinese athletes to gear up before the Athens Olympics. 

¡¡¡¡"On the whole, most athletes have fulfilled their plans and some even came out with best results in Chinese canoeing history." Wei said, "Meanwhile, this competition bears out a good test for all competition procedures of World Canoeing Championships." 

¡¡¡¡Despite good results in the National Championships, Wei said this domestic tournament could not add weight on snatching China's first-ever Olympic gold in Athens. 

¡¡¡¡Wei added, "The best Olympic result for the Chinese canoeing was the fourth in 1992. In 2000 we had only one athlete admitted to the Sydney Olympic Games. In the coming World Championships, which is a real test for our strength, we will endeavor to secure four to five berths for Athens."
