UNITED NATIONS, July 11 (Xinhuanet) -- US Ambassador to the UnitedNations John Negroponte said Friday that the United States has notyet given up its efforts to seek a Security Council condemnation of Pyongyang on its alleged nuclear program.

　　"The presidential statement is still on the table," Negroponte told reporters, in reference to a draft statement presented by Washington to chide the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

　　The sternly-worded draft, which has been shelved since early June, demands the DPRK dismantle its nuclear program. Despite an amendment to it in late June in order to gain support among council members, the draft was still ill-received by some council members.

　　Council President Inocencio Arias of Spain confirmed Friday that DPRK Ambassador to the UN Pak Gil Yon met him on July 1 urging the council to be impartial in case of taking up the DPRK'snuclear issue.

　　Arias said he would brief the council Monday on the his meetingwith Pak.

　　In a letter to the Security Council late June, DPRK warned against any condemnation on its withdrawal from the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) and called on the council to be impartial in dealing with NPT-related issues. Enditem
