ˇˇˇˇPYONGYANG, May 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(DPRK) has its own method to cope with the US attempt to develop smaller nukes,
the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a commentary released on Tuesday.
ˇˇˇˇThe comments were made after the US Senate recently
voted to lift a decade-old ban on the research of low-yield nuclear weapons.
ˇˇˇˇThe US attempts indicated the Bush administration's move to carry out a
reckless war strategy to dominate the world by force, the commentary said.
ˇˇˇˇIt is clear that the US production of such weapons is aimed at maintaining
an unchallenged edge over other states with nuclear weapons and dominate the
world, it said.
ˇˇˇˇThis would only "escalate the worldwide nuclear arms race and prompt
various countries to pull out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the
state-run news agency said.
ˇˇˇˇWhat calls for caution on the part of the DPRK is the US assertion that the
development of smaller nukes is necessary for striking "rogue states" and
terrorist organizations, the commentary stressed.
ˇˇˇˇ"What is more serious is that the development of such type of nukes is
resumed at a time when the United States is increasing its pressure on the DPRK
over such non-existent issues as drug trafficking and counterfeit money, while
blustering that 'further steps would be considered in case the danger increases'
and 'all options are not taken off the table'," it said.
ˇˇˇˇThe US nuclear threat compels the DPRK to heighten its revolutionary
vigilance and build a deterrent force to counter theuse of nuclear weapons, the
ˇˇˇˇ"The United States is well advised to stop acting rashly, well aware that
the DPRK has its own effective method to cope with Washington's nuclear threat,"
the commentary warned. Enditem
