Hong Kong,
May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- For the first time since the HK SAR government started
compiling statistics in March, no new SARS cases were reported on Saturday. Hong
Kong's biggest pop stars performed at a benefit concert to celebrate the
occasion and to raise funds for families affected by
SARS.
Earlier on Friday, the World Health
Organization had lifted a Hong Kong travel advisory. For weeks, many people in
Hong Kong had been wearing surgical masks, but most of the thousands of
concert£goers were conspicuously not wearing
them.
The "1 to 99 Concert" was named after the
bleach£to£water ratio officials have recommended as an anti£SARS cleaning
solution. Artists included pop sensation Nicholas Tse and Hong Kong's "Four
Heavenly Kings", Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Leon Lai, and Aaron Kowk. Singers Sammi
Cheng, Joey Yung, and Eason Chan also
appeared.
The concert organizer said some 17.2
million Hong Kong dollars had been raised by Saturday night.Enditem
