Palestinian human rights group accuses Israel for escalation of military aggression

Xinhuanet 2003-05-10 19:42:45

””””GAZA, May 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Human Rights Center in a report released Saturday accused Israeli army of escalating its military aggression against Palestine.

””””In its weekly report, the center said Israeli army perpetrates deliberate killings, shelling of crowded neighborhoods, demolishing houses, razing agricultural lands, large-scale arrest campaigns as well as raiding Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps.

””””Israeli army killed 19 Palestinians during last week, the reportsaid, adding that most of the casualties occurred during the Israeli raid in the crowded neighborhood of Sheja'eya, where 13 Palestinians were killed in a single day, including a 2-year-old boy.

””””It said that there were also 40 Palestinians wounded during the raid, with five of them in critical condition.

””””The center accused Israeli army of committing war crimes, mentioning the massacres carried out in Jabalya and Al-Bureij refugee camps in the Gaza Strip last April.

””””Many Palestinian cities and villages were raided last week, in which Israeli army has deliberately inflicted severe material damages on Palestinian properties, the report said.

””””The southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah had been under Israeli shelling for three consecutive days, where 18 Palestinian-owned houses were demolished and 100 Palestinians were reported to be homeless, it added.

””””The center accused Israel of killing British cameraman James Miller, who was shot dead by Israeli army in Rafah city while filming Israeli bulldozers demolishing Palestinian houses in the city.

””””The killing of Miller brought the death toll of journalists killed by Israeli army since the outbreak of the Intifada, or Uprising, in September 2000 to 7, the report said.

””””The report also said that Israel is still dividing the Palestinian territories into alienated areas to turn them into small military cantons, which makes it impossible for Palestinians to move between them. Enditem
