Beijing suspends public entertainment businesses

”” BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Beijing government has decided to suspend all entertainment businesses involving mass public gatherings as of Saturday in an effort to curb the spread of SARS.

””””Beijing Municipal Culture Bureau, Public Security Bureau and the Industry and Commerce Bureau jointly made the decision in linewith the national law on epidemic prevention and treatment.

””””These businesses including karaoke houses, Internet bars, electronic game bars, theaters and cinemas.

””””Sources with the Municipal Culture Bureau said it is difficult for these entertainment venues to meet the requirements for disinfection and ventilation. The decision was made to stop possible spread of the SARS virus and ensure public health.

””””The sources said the resumption of these business would depend on the progress of SARS prevention.

””””During the time of suspension, municipal government bodies, including the three bureaus, would step up inspections of these business venues.
