¡¡¡¡BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Wu Bangguo was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) Saturday morning at an on-going session of the NPC, China's top legislature.

¡¡¡¡Li Peng, chairman of the 9th NPC Standing Committee, shook hands with Wu following the announcement of the election result.

¡¡¡¡Wu, born in 1941, became a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee last November.

    Sheng Huaren was elected one of the 15 vice-chairmen and concurrently secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, Saturday morning at the on-going NPC annual session.
