ˇˇˇˇBEIJING, March 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A member of China's top advisory body warned
Wednesday against excessive commodities packaging, which he cited as another
source of environmental pollution and have to "be banted" and greatly reduced.
ˇˇˇˇDecent, appropriate packaging facilitate sales of goods, whereas excessive
and even fraudulent packaging could lead to a waste of resources and cause
serious environmental pollution hazards, said Li Yafang, a member of the 10th
National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference
(CPPCC).
ˇˇˇˇShe enumerated statistics from environmental sanitation departments that
more than 70 percent of the garbage from packaging industry could have been
reduced. At present, garbage originated from packaging made up more than 20
percent of the household rubbish in the country.
ˇˇˇˇMeanwhile, Li set forth a proposal for formulating law and regulations on the
packaging of commodities in a bid to conserve and save natural resources, lessen
environmental pollution and ban fraudulent packaging methods. Enditem
