¡¡¡¡BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Jiang Zemin said Tuesday night that it is unnecessary to have a new resolution from the United Nations Security Council on the Iraq issue.

¡¡¡¡Jiang made the remark in a telephone conversation with French President Jacques Chirac, according to sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

¡¡¡¡Chirac reiterated France's stance on the Iraq issue, stressing that France can not accept an ultimatum authorizing the use of force.

¡¡¡¡Jiang said China has been paying close attention to the development of the Iraq situation. The new report submitted by two UN institutions several days ago indicated that nuclear inspections had made progress.

¡¡¡¡"Our stand does not change," Jiang said, pointing out that nuclear inspections should be carried on and the Iraq should be settled by political means within the framework of the United Nations.
