HK newspapers express congratulations on opening of NPC meeting

””””HONG KONG, March 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong's major newspapers carried editorials and articles Wednesday expressing congratulations on the opening of the first session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing.

””””Wen Wei Po said in an editorial that the first session of the 10th NPC, which is held after the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, shoulders important historic missions.

””””The NPC meeting will make plans for the economic growth of the country and the restructuring of the government, and the new leadership team of China will be elected at the meeting, the newspaper said.

””””China is in a critical period with many opportunities and China's economy has become the spotlight in the sluggish world economy,the newspaper said, noting that the NPC meeting will be very important to ensure the fast and sound development of the nationaleconomy and build a better off society throughout the country.

””””In an editorial, Ta Kung Pao said that the new NPC meeting draws the world attention and the government work report, the personnel reshuffling and the government restructuring are all focus of the meeting.

””””It noted the government institutional restructuring is expectedto transform the government functions and meet the demand of building and improving the market economy in the country.

””””Hong Kong's English newspaper South China Morning Post published a signed article, which said the government restructuring to be announced at the NPC meeting is supposed to reflect the government's new thinking.
