Achievements of space in 2002

    In November 2000, the Chinese Government issued the White Paper on China¡¯s Space Activities for the first time. The White Paper states that the Chinese Government regards space industry as an integral part of the state¡¯s comprehensive development strategy, and the exploration and utilization of outerspace should be for peaceful purposes in order to promote human civilization and social progress, and to benefit the whole of mankind.

    China has made proud achievements in space field in the year 2002:

    The successful launch and recovering of Shenzhou-3 and 4 unmanned experimental spacecraft, it has laid the firm foundation for realizing the dream of traveling into outer space by the Chinese nation.

    The successful launch of FY-1D polar meteorological satellite, HY-1 marine satellite and FY-2 earth observation satellite, which are playing an important role in the management of China¡¯s meteorology, marine and environmental monitoring and disaster prediction, as well as the development of national economy.
