Spanish PM, US president discuss Iraq situation

””””MADRID, Jan. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar discussed on Monday the Iraqi crisis in a phone conversation with US President George W. Bush, saying it's necessary to keep "strong" pressure on Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

””””Aznar told Bush that the United States should keep the pressureon Saddam until he complies with the UN disarmament resolutions.

””””He also called for the continuity of cooperation within the European Union (EU) in regard to the Iraq issue.

””””Bush informed Aznar on the State of the Union address he will present to the US people Tuesday.

””””The two leaders also talked about the common position adopted on Monday on the Iraq issue among the four EU countries in the UN Security Council -- Spain, Germany, France and Britain.

””””The foreign ministers of the four countries on Monday approved in Brussels a declaration calling on Iraq to fully cooperate with the United Nations and warned the Iraqi regime that "it has now the last chance to solve the crisis in a peaceful way."
