BAGHDAD, Jan. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraq insisted on Monday
that it has cooperated fully with UN weapons inspectors just hours before chief
arms inspectors Hans Blix and Mohamed ElBaradei are to deliver a crucial report
on Baghdad's disarmament to the UN Security Council.
””””"The Iraqi government has cooperated fully with all the (UN) inspection
teams... (and) met its obligations," Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri told a
press conference in Baghdad.
””””He asked UN weapons inspectors to be "fair" when they present the report
later in the day to the Security Council on Iraq's compliance with disarmament
process.
””””"I hope they will be fair and they will present the facts as they are on
the ground," he said.
””””He reiterated Iraq is free of any banned weapons of mass destruction,
accusing the United States of using the pretext to "colonize Iraq and control
its oil."
””””The Iraqi official noted that UN arms inspectors have searched almost 500
suspected sites, including offices, guesthouses, mosques, universities,
hospitals, factories and military sites, but "found nothing."
””””"They exposed these (US) accusations are all lies," he told reporters at
the Iraqi Information Ministry.
””””The United States accuses Iraq of secretly developing weapons of mass
destruction and is pouring tens of thousands of troops into the Gulf region to
back up its threats to disarm Baghdad by force.
””””The Iraqi foreign minister also denied the US allegation that Baghdad has
connection with the Al-Qaeda terror network.
””””"Iraq has no links with any terrorist organizations," Sabri said, referring
mainly to the Al-Qaeda network allegedly responsible for the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks against the United States in 2001.
””””Blix and El-Baradei are expected to deliver a crucial report at 1530 GMT to
the Security Council in New York after weeks of inspections amid mounting US
threats to wage a war on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's regime. Enditem
