””””MADRID, Dec. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Spanish police have arrested an Algerian
suspected of having received training at Osama bin Laden's camps in Afghanistan
and of carrying out propaganda for the Jihad (holy war), police sources informed
on Friday.
””””Abdelkrim Hammad, also known as Alias Aldelnassa, was picked up Thursday in
La Rioja on an international arrest warrant.
””””He is wanted in Algeria for murder and for terrorist association, the
Interior Ministry said in a statement.
””””Police authorities described Hammad as "a dangerous terrorist who was
trained in Afghan camps controlled by bin Laden, where he specialized in
handling explosives."
””””Besides his activity in Algeria, Hammad participated as an Islamic militant
in the Jihad in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Kosovo, the Interior Ministry said.
””””It said Hammad had been in Europe since the mid-1990s, and had recruited
and trained young Arab men for the Jihad, and formed part of the logistics
network for Islamic groups linked to Algeria's Armed Islamic Group (GIA).
””””The GIA is believed to have links to Bin Laden's al Qaeda network,
suspected of carrying out the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York and
Washington.
””””Since the attacks, Spain has arrested about two dozen men suspected of some
kind of link to al Qaeda, eight of whom are being held on suspicion of playing a
role in the strikes on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Enditem
