ˇˇˇˇBEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- International Olympic Committee's
communications chief visited Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.
ˇˇˇˇGiselle Davies, appointed as IOC's director of communications in May,
briefed Xinhua sports reporters on the recently-concluded IOC Session, which
decided to postpone a vote on dropping modern pentathlon, baseball and softball
from the Olympics.
ˇˇˇˇWhen asked if the postponement was a defeat for IOC president Jacques
Rogge, who had commissioned the proposed changes and pushed for a vote, Davies
said: "No, of course not."
ˇˇˇˇRogge has pledged to scale down the Olympic Games because he isworried that
the Games is getting too big and expensive to host, said Davies.
ˇˇˇˇDavies is with the IOC's Coordination Commission which had its first full
meeting with 2008 Olympic Games organizers (BOCOG) in Beijing.
ˇˇˇˇThe commission led by Hein Verbruggen lavished praise on the progress
Beijing had made in the first year after the Chinese capital was awarded the
2008 Games.
ˇˇˇˇ"The IOC's Coordination Commission is very impressed by the work done by
BOCOG in the first year," Verbruggen said on Wednesday.
ˇˇˇˇ"I must say that the people we talked to are knowledgeable and specialize
in organization of the Olympic Games," he added. Enditem
