¡¡¡¡TOKYO, Dec. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Jennifer Capriati of the United States will
return to Tokyo for the first time in 11 years to spearhead the 1.3 million US
dollars Pan Pacific Open tennis tournament which starts here January 28,
organizers said on Thursday.
¡¡¡¡The Australian Open champion previously took part in a Tokyo indoor in
September 1990. Two years later she crashed out of the second round here.
¡¡¡¡The 26-year-old American faces a tough task to survive the star-studded
field against former world number ones Martina Hingis of Switzerland and her
compatriots Lindsay Davenport and Monica Seles.
¡¡¡¡Davenport and Hingis have shared the Tokyo title in the past six years with
the Swiss Miss winning in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2002and the American in 1998 and
2001.
¡¡¡¡Top contenders will also include Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia, who is
expected to skip the season-opening events in Australia, including Melbourne.
¡¡¡¡Other prominent players include Russian pin-up Anna Kournikova,her
compatriot and Sydney Olympic silver medallist Elena Dementieva and Magdalena
