””””BANGKOK, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
asked the Thai police to provide it with information about two Iranian men who
are suspected of being involved in international terrorism, The Nation newspaper
reportedWednesday.
””””Quoting a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the newspaper
reported that an FBI officer had met Tithiraj Nongharnphitak of the Crime
Suppression Division to discuss the matter.
””””The source said travel documents in the names of the two Iranians,
identified as Hatami Aghadam Faizin, 45, and Heidari Gholam hppein (sic), 43,
were confiscated by police during a recent raid on a fake-passport ring in
Bangkok.
””””Though it is not known if the two suspected terrorists were directly
involved in the production of the fake travel documents, the passports bearing
their names were found along with 52 other fake travel documents, which were
confiscated by the police.
””””The names of the arrested ringleaders were not revealed, but according to
the source they were ordered to leave Thailand.
””””The meeting with the FBI agent follows a complaint by Interior Minister Wan
Muhammad Noor Matha on Monday that Thai police and security agencies were not
doing enough to cooperate with international law-enforcement agencies.
””””Wan Noor said local authorities had a tendency to push foreign suspects out
of the country without due process and with little consideration of their future
illicit activities.
””””The minister vowed to step up cooperation with foreign law-enforcement
agencies following Saturday's bomb attack on the Indonesian resort island of
Bali, in which almost 200 people were killed. Enditem
