Uzbekistan collects five and South Korea wins three golds in boxing

¡¡¡¡BUSAN, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Boxers from Uzbekistan displayed their overwhelming power in Asian boxing when they collect five gold medals at the 14th Asian Games here on Sunday.

¡¡¡¡Rustam Saidov rounded off Uzbekistan's victory in the ring whenhe outpointed Mukhtarkhan Dildabekov of Kazakstan to win the titlein the over 91kg category.

¡¡¡¡Hosts South Korea had three titles, Kazakstan had two and Pakistan won its first gold of the Asian Games.

¡¡¡¡Uzbekistan's Dilshod Mahmudov won his nation's first boxing gold Sunday, using a crushing left to defeat South Korea's Baik Jong-sub 27-17 in the 60-kilogram lightweight final.

¡¡¡¡Uzbekitan's Utkirbek Haydarov won gold in the 75-kilogram middleweight final against Pakistan's Ali Khan Ahmad when the referee halted the bout 16 seconds into the third round.

¡¡¡¡Asian champion Ikrom Berdiev outpointed South Korean Choi Ki-soo to win the 81kg division for Uzbekistan.

¡¡¡¡Uzbekistan picked up its fourth gold when Sergey Mihayilov stopped Pakistan's Ali Shoukat in the third round of the 91-kilogram heavyweight final.

¡¡¡¡"We have a lot of good fighters," said Uzbekistan boxing scout Tayma Niyazov. "This is our tradition. During the days of the Soviet Union we provided the best boxers."

¡¡¡¡The host boxers also had a good harvest from the bouts.

¡¡¡¡In Sunday's first bout, Kim Ki-suk defeated Harry Tanamor of the Philippines. Kim was given a standing eight count in the firstround but came back strong in the third round of the 48kg bout, stunning Tanamor, who injured his right hand early in the third round, with a right-left combination on his way to 24-19 victory.

¡¡¡¡Kim Won-il cruised to a 27-17 victory over Uzbekistan's Bekzod Khidorov in the 54kg final for South Korea's second gold.

¡¡¡¡The hosts picked up their third of the day in the 67kg divisionwhen Kim Jung-joo won a thrilling last-minute victory over Kazakstan's Sergey Rychko.

¡¡¡¡With Rychko leading by one point with only six seconds remaining in the fourth round, Kim came back with a flurry of punches to seal the 31-30 victory.

¡¡¡¡Pakistan captured its first gold medal of the games when Mehrullah survived a late flurry of punches for a 26-21 victory over Kazakstan's Galib Jafarov in the 57kg featherweight final.

¡¡¡¡Kazakstan's Gennadiy Golovkin stopped Thailand's Suriya Prasathinphimai at eight seconds into the third round to win the gold medal in the 71kg category final.

¡¡¡¡Nurzhan Karimzhanov, also from Kazakstan, edged Pakistan's Ali Shah Asghar 19-15 in the 63.5kg division. Karimzhanov recovered from a slow start and landed 10 punches in the third round to takecontrol of the bout.

¡¡¡¡In the 51kg final, Thailand's Somjit Jongjohor relied on a solid right to win gold in a 26-7 victory over Pakistan's Karim Nouman. Enditem
