Hot Int'l issues should be settled by political, peaceful means: FM spokeswoman

ˇˇˇˇBEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said here Thursday that any hot international issues should be settled by political and peaceful means.

ˇˇˇˇThis is the common requirement of the international community, said Zhang at a regular press conference.

ˇˇˇˇShe summed up the important points in the speeches made by leaders of various countries during the general debate of the 57th session of the United Nations General Assembly held earlier this month.

ˇˇˇˇAccording to Zhang, almost all nations in the session stressed the importance of multilateralism and international cooperation and coordination when settling international issues.

ˇˇˇˇAll emphasized the need to abide by the UN Charter and strengthen the role played by the UN in the international arena.

ˇˇˇˇShe said all stressed the importance of development and the responsibility shared by all nations in the eradication of povertyand for the achievement of common prosperity.

ˇˇˇˇAll agreed to strengthen their anti-terrorism efforts while taking comprehensive measures to uproot terrorism, she said.

ˇˇˇˇThe solution to the Iraqi issue should also be in line with prevailing requirements of the international community, as well asthe principles of the UN Charter, she said.

ˇˇˇˇWhen asked to comment on the recent British dossier about Iraq's development of weapons of mass destruction, Zhang said that China "is now studying" the document. Enditem
